I created StartOps to fill a need that I saw repeatedly over my 25+ years working as a finance professional within and without organizations. Over and over I saw organizations unable to provide the necessary information needed by management to effectively run their businesses. I saw the lack of proper utilization of technology even though most had spent thousands or millions of dollars buying the next best thing. I saw repeatedly the wrong people in the wrong jobs struggling valiantly, but usually in vain trying to perform impossible tasks because management really didn’t allow them to be successful. I experienced a lack of basic “blocking and tackling” within accounting operations; not processing the simplest invoice or producing a standard financial statement without excruciating effort and inevitably failing. 

I couldn’t see another multi-million dollar organization relying on a series of pasted together spreadsheets to make major financial decisions and relying on a single employee to get critical information produced. I saw well-capitalized start-ups and mature organizations fail miserably to properly execute on the vision of the organization because they thought that control meant that everyone in the chain of command had to see and touch every piece of paper within the organization. 

After years of seeing many challenged approaches to financial management, technology operations, and accounting management, I knew that I could provide a better solution. It isn’t a miracle cure, but it gets companies looking that their financial operations from a perspective that most don’t see. It allows the whole organization to derive significant value from a function that is all to commonly referred to as a “necessary evil”. 

By making key changes that enhance accountability, increase technology utilization, employing “best practices”, by implementing standards of performance and holding your people to those standards, you can transform an organization from one that is stagnant, one that is failing and even ones that while leading their segment could really be doing it even better, into one that is effective and efficient and a place where people learn, grow, and succeed.
